They may truly respect each other and yet be under greatThis scene really caught me on the reread.
The Chancellor certainly seems sincere. Cpt. Belmont also seems sincere. Agreeing that his dead father, a high official, was an “evil bastard”. But what do they truly feel or think. In a culture as medieval as Bellac seems, they maybe under pressure to fight each other.
